Oh, Greeeeeeeeeeeeyyyyyyyytt!!
Hello, Friends and Loved Ones,
Thank you so much for keeping us in your prayers. I do have a couple of other posts that I want to write, but not much time for it at the moment. I did want to tell you about what my **sweet** husband said (or maybe not so sweet, I don't know!).
Anyway, usually (not always, but usually), when Brendin hugs me, it is to tell me
1. How short I am
2. How much grey hair I have
I don't really mind, because when the hugs come, it is such a blissful moment, that I can think of nothing else for as long as the hug lasts. I don't get upset about it, I will take those hugs any way I can get them!!
The other night, though, the two older ones, Alan, and myself were playing a game (the others had gone to bed), and I had my hair pulled back in a pony tail. Alan was sitting right beside me, and the light must have caught in my hair just right, because he said, "Wow! You're really grey!!!" I just laughed, and he said, "No, really! It looks like your Mom's hair!" Now, how is a woman suppose to take that??!! I mean, COME ON! I do think my mom is beautiful with a gorgeous head of hair. I did not think to ask him exactly WHAT he meant by those words:)
Now it is one thing coming from a 13 year old boy, but it is quite another thing coming from the love of my life!:)
Hmmmm...it sounds like maybe the hair budget is going to have to grow!! We will see!!
Have a Wonderful Day!

Still Here
Hello, Praying Friends and Loved Ones,
Thank you, thank you, thank you so much for praying for us, and if you have been checking the blog on a regular basis, I am so sorry that I have not kept it up. It has been well OVER a month!!!!! We are still around. We made it back to Hamilton in time for Emily and Austin to go to Camp YES. I believe that was around August
10th or so. We had a wonderful time in Salt Lake City. Is it ever beautiful there!!! We had a great time getting to know the Spillmans, and they were such gracious hosts!! We truly enjoyed our time there. So while Emily and Austin were at camp from the 15 through the 21st, the rest of us took the opportunity to drive to Rochester, NY, to see our friend, Bro. Arnold. Although he was busy with classes in training new candidates for his missions board, he took some time out to spend with us. His daughter and son-in-law and their family are beginning deputation and heading to Senegal. His daughter, Julie, still has her job, so Bro. Arnold and Alex (his s-i-l)went to Rochester for the classes. With them, they brought Julie and Alex's daughter with them to get a head start in training her for traveling. It ended up that Bro. Arnold had to go to a Coordinator's class, and so we took care of the baby for him and Alex. She was so sweet!! At that time, she was 15 months old (I think!). It was really funny to see Bethany around her. She wasn't mean or anything, but it was quite obvious that she was JEALOUS!! She was also quite put out with Bro. Arnold because in all of the 7 years that she has known him, she did not know that he was married! When she saw the baby with Bro. Arnold, she asked who the baby was. He said, "This is my granddaughter." She replied, "I didn't know you were MARRIED!!" He said, "Yes, I am." From then on, she has treated him very differently! As she put it, "He was really cool when I didn't know he was married. He's just not cool anymore!" It didn't matter what we said to her, she was still disappointed.
Anyhow, the following week, Pastor McClain asked us to be the camp missionaries. That was really exciting for me! I loved it! Austin was a camper again, and Bethany joined him. This was an exciting time for her, too, as it was her first year. She did really well, and can hardly wait to go again next year. Brendin was used as a worker (which he really enjoyed), so that left Emily as an "only child" for the week. She kind of had the best of both worlds because she could basically roam around and participate when she wanted, or stay in the cabin with us. It was a relaxing week, and we were so thankful and blessed to be there!
The Lord answered my prayers as far as homeschooling was concerned. Up until that point, we had not been able to purchase any curriculum, but while we were at Bethel Baptist Church on a Sunday night, Mrs. Bakker approached me and said that the school there had extra books that we could buy, if that was what we wanted to do. Praise the Lord!! We were able to begin school on time. The children were kind of stressing out about not starting on time, but the Lord took care of that. Come to find out they had extras for ALL of our children!! Isn't God good??!!
This is Thursday night, and right now we are helping Pastor Eagles watch his boys. It works out well for everyone involved, because Mrs. Eagles gives piano lessons until about 9 p.m. So Pastor brings their boys to the church, and our children play with them for the whole time!! If Alan and I have something to do, Pastor is here, and vice versa, so there is always an adult here. So Pastor is able to still get some work done, and our children get to have fun with the boys. That being said, things are getting a little rowdy in the other room, so I better make sure everyone is safe. Thanks for reading!
Have a great day!

Chubbys
Hello, Everyone, Thanks so much for stopping in to check up on us! We are all still doing very well, staying healthy and having a great time. While we were in Salt Lake City, we were able to see a few things including the copper mine, the Mormon square, and we were able to take the children to a place where they could mini-putt, play a few games, and have a round of lazer tag.
My favourite place to visit, though, was Chubby's. It is a mexican restaurant, with the most amazing mexican food I have ever tasted (except for my mom's, of course)! The owners go to one of the churches that we were in, and they were so good to us! We went a total of three times, the first time the Spillmans treated us, the second, we used gift certificates given to us by the owners, and then a third time. If you're ever in the area, look it up. You will not be disappointed!
Well, I will sign off for now,
Have a great night!

90-year old Gets Baptized!!
Hello, everyone!! I just had to blog and tell you about what is going on at Faith Baptist in Hamilton. For about 8 years (I think), a lady by the name of Mrs. Ames has been coming to our church. She was an orphan in Belgium, raised in a convent in Holland from the age of about 2 on. Then at some point, she married and moved to Canada with her family. She had been Catholic all of her life. Of course from the first time she walked through the doors, she has heard the Gospel message. Everything was so DIFFERENT for her. Many times she told me how that she could not believe that there could be such friendly churches, where people actually CARED about one another!! She remembers being hugged by me after only coming to church a few times. She really thought that STRANGE!! What got her started coming to our church was that her second husband (whom she absolutely adored) died, and after a few weeks, she attended a Catholic function (I think it was a dance), and she was just sitting there talking with some friends. Someone told her that she needed to be in the kitchen serving because she did not have a partner. It was not long after that, that she received a John/Romans in her mailbox from our church. After reading it, she took it to her priest and asked him why the Catholic church did not teach these things, and could he explain it to her. The response was, "If you want to learn about that, then go to THAT church!!" She said she was just stubborn enough to do it!! And she has been coming ever since!! Now, today, she is getting baptized, which means, she has already received the Lord as her personal Saviour!! Oh, what a blessing!!! Are you rejoicing with me??!! Thanks!
On another note, Alan was able to work things out so that today will be our last Sunday here in SLC, Utah. We are headed for home tomorrow!! The children are beside themselves because now they can go to Camp Y.E.S. Well, at least 3 of them can. Brendin has to miss out, but he has a pretty good attitude about it. So, we are all looking forward to getting home! (Where ever that is!!LOL) Well, gotta get ready for church. Have a great Lord's Day!

Utah
Hello, Everyone!! Thanks so much for thinking about us and praying for us! The Lord has been so good! Not only do we have so many people back home, but He is giving us more and more people to connect with, which is making our prayer list bigger. Yay!!
So, we finally finished the roof, and it turned out lovely. So we finished it on Wednesday morning and packed up and left Wednesday afternoon. Within a matter of about 1 hour, we had a meeting scheduled and then cancelled. Oh, well, sometimes that happens! So we headed down towards the Salt Lake City area. I tell you, the drive was just beautiful!! We went through the thin part of Idaho, then into Montana (I loved it, and had ALWAYS wanted to go to Montana), back into Idaho, and finally into Utah. The mountains through that drive were really different. Some were covered with pine trees, but others would have a large area of the mountain with pine trees, and then be completely bald on the other side. Even different yet, were many mountains that looked "velvety" from far away, and then once we got closer to them, we could see that they were in fact covered with desert-looking grass. I did get some pictures, but unfortunately we left the wire for our camera back in Ontario. So hopefully I will remember to post them at a later date.
So anyway, now we are in Utah and here to stay in the area for the next 3 Sundays. We just got back from Bible Baptist Church's teen night, where Alan preached. We had a terrific time!
Well, I must be on my way, once again, thanks for all you do for us! Oh, I almost forgot, THREE more churches took us on for support this month!! What a blessing!
Have a wonderful day,

The Steps of a Good Man are Ordered by the Lord
Hi, I just wanted to share a quick blessing with you. I love that verse that I used as my title. Ever since we decided to follow the Lord as missionaries, it seems like the Lord has just blessed and blessed. I KNOW He blessed and blessed while we were in the pastorate, but I really believe that many times I was too busy to see the Lord's blessings on a daily basis. I am so glad that He has put us on this road in this new chapter of our lives because we cannot help but see His daily miracles and blessings! So yesterday afternoon between services, we had to go to Wal-Mart. Now we don't normally do the Sunday shopping thing, but this was of GREAT necessity, as I was completely out of motion sickness pills, and 3 of us would desperately NEED them for our drive home. Anyway, we saw a Hastings on the way, and Alan mentioned that he thought that was a bookstore. I said that I remembered it being some sort of music store from my days of living in the U.S. He was looking to buy some good Christian music, so he thought he might give it a try since we had a few hours to kill. Come to find out, it is BOTH a music store AND a bookstore!! So we went in and everyone has their own taste in books, so we kind of paired off and went our separate ways. I don't know how long we had been, but when my feet were aching, I thought I would search everyone out. I ran into Alan who was sitting and reading a book, and across from him was an older man with whom he had been talking. So Alan noticed me and asked me if I was ready to leave. After saying that I was and rounding everyone up, Alan stood up and the man shook Alan's hand. So we left. Just before we got to the doors, Alan turned around and showed me what was in his hand...a $100 U.S. dollar bill!!! I asked him where he got that, and he told me that when the man shook his hand, he slipped him the bill. Apparently during their discussion, the man had asked Alan what he did when he wasn't reading books. So Alan told him that he was a Baptist missionary. The man asked him what kind of Baptist, and Alan told him Independent Fundamental. To which the man replied that he had a cousin in Wisconsin who was an IF Baptist pastor. He went on to say that he was a catholic, but that he realized the difference between his religion and Baptists was the relationship with Christ. Alan really enjoyed visiting with him. The man said that he went there every day and reads about 10 pages a day. And when he handed Alan the money, he told him that he wanted us to have a meal on him. WOW!! Alan felt certain that this generous man was likely saved because of his comments about the different religions. Praise the Lord!!
Well, it is past my bedtime, and I know that Bro. Larry will be up on that roof early in the morning, so I must be on my way.
Love,
Ida
STINKY!!!
Hello, Friends and Loved Ones,
Once again, thanks so much for your prayers! Thanks for being so faithful! The Lord is good, and we serve such a Mighty God!! He has kept us all protected as we help Bro. Larry Stogsdill put a new roof on his house. As well as keeping us safe on the roof, He also protected us while we were driving to Moscow, Idaho yesterday morning. It was only about an hour and a half away, but the first part of the drive was through the mountains with a deer crossing the road in front of us when we drove there yesterday morning, and another one crossed in front of us (this time in the dark) as we drove back. So, we were praising the Lord for His protection. We had the privilege of being at White Pine Baptist Church there in Moscow, and what a time of worship we had with them! They were so receptive, and the altar was full last night. What a blessing they were to us! There was a question and answer time during the S.S. hour, and I was blessed by all that was asked. Pastor and Mrs. Bill Quaade took us out for lunch, and we had a great time of fellowship with them. They are really a neat couple! We are really thankful that the Lord has taken us to all of these great churches!
So we go out to the van yesterday morning, and by the *LOVELY* smell in there, me thinks that the mouse "food" is working!! It was DISGUSTING!! So Alan did a terrific job of airing out the van, and we traveled with the windows down for quite a ways. But every time we had to lock it up, we would crack the windows, but still the smell lingered. I was really thankful that no one asked me what the name of my "perfume" was; I was almost sure that our clothes smelled of "Eau du Rodent". Anyway, I must find the source and dispose of the little creature...but I think it is just behind the console. I really doubt that I can get in there...
Have a Wonderful Day,

An Unwelcome Guest
Hello, Everyone! Thanks for thinking of us! We are in the beautiful state of Idaho right now, and are keeping busy. Thanks so much for your prayers! I think I forgot to tell you that New Testament Baptist Church picked us up for support starting this month! Praise the Lord!
So now to tell you about our unwelcome guest/s. I believe it was around the time that we were in Montrose when we picked up some mice in the VAN!! I had never heard of anything like that before, but I think they got in from under the hood. I first noticed it in the glove box where I usually keep a stash of napkins. The stack of napkins was all chewed through. Well, if you know me at all, you will know that besides Mickey Mouse, I cannot STAND mice of any kind! So now I am on a mission to get rid of those pesky critters. We took most of the seats out of the van, and vacuumed it all out. I didn't think there would be much garbage in the van because when we have to eat in it, the kids are really good at passing their garbage up to me, and then I will throw it out at our next stop. But I was surprised at all the little pieces of garbage left. So we got it all nice and clean and then I went shopping for some "mouse food". I put some under each seat and in the little storage compartment in the back, where I had seen evidence of them. Then I went back up to the glove box, and I realized that there were more coming in through there, because a "door" was off. I had not realized that it was not supposed to be open like that. So I found the part (it is just like the part of the back of a remote to keep the batteries in) and put it back, but not before throwing in some food. I heard the food fall a little ways and then land at the black partition that separates the inside of the van from the engine. About where my feet are. Then I think I saw a nest through a vent. There was quite a bit of chewed up napkins in there. Well, it has now been a few days, and every once in a while I have to replace a chunk of food, but not very often. So that is a good sign. All I can say is..."Here, mousy, mousy, mousy!!" Well, I better get going...I got me a varmint to catch and then help the fellas up on top of the house. It looks like it's gonna be a fun morning!!
Have a Wonderful Day,

My Thumb
Hello, Friends and Loved Ones,
Thank you so much for praying for us! We truly appreciate them! We have been helping our friends Bro. Larry and his wife, Debbie put a new roof on their house. Alan has had some experience in that area, and we just wanted to try to be a blessing. So all of us are pitching in in one way or another. The children have really worked hard. Anyway, the Lord is protecting us. Alan felt something in his shoe, and he realized that there was a nail that went all the way through his shoe. Fortunately, it went between his toes, so there was no damage done. Yea!!
Two days ago, I was trying to cut some rain and ice paper for the men so that they would not have to keep climbing up and down the ladder. Well, I was using a two-edged utility knife--I had never used one of those in my life before. Before I knew it, I had sliced my thumb. Not too bad, but it did bleed quite a bit. So I just applied pressure, and after a minute or so, the bleeding stopped. I put a band aid on it (but I don't normally like to wear band aids), and just returned to work. The only reason I even put a band aid on was because I wanted to keep it clean, and I was trying to keep it from splitting again. Well, the day after, I had to clean out the van a bit and wash up some spilled something or other. I went on to wash all the windows on the outside of it, but I had to be really careful so that I would not split the wound again. I realized that I was not putting much pressure on it, and therefore could not wring out my cloth as well as I would have liked or needed. So the rest of my hands had to compensate for what my thumb could not do. Immediately, I thought of the church and its members. I kept thinking of how it hurts when members do not show up to church, or don't follow through with their promised responsibilities, etc., etc. I thought of how it hurts the rest of the church, and how someone or other has to jump in and do extra so that the job gets done anyway. So if the job is going to get done anyway, don't you want to be in on the blessing?? I especially thought of Bethel Baptist Church and the many churches in Canada that are without pastors. Someone has to work hard to make sure the job gets done. Could you help pray for churches just like these? That the man of God's choice would step into these rolls? Thanks!

Idaho
Hello, Friends and Loved Ones,
We are still around, thanks so much for your prayers! We left Montrose last Saturday and drove a quick 4 hours to St. Maries, Idaho, where we have been staying with some friends from college. We have really been enjoying our stay here. Last Sunday morning we were at Lighthouse Baptist, here in St. Maries, and then we drove a couple of hours to a really small town called Clark Fork, Idaho. We really enjoyed being at both churches. The people here are so very friendly, and I just love to answer their questions. Then last night we drove one hour to Coeur d'Alene to be with Foundation Baptist Church. Again, we had a FANTASTIC time in the house of the Lord!! We will probably be here until the middle of next week, where we will travel on to Utah for about three weeks. We are trying to help Bro. Larry put a new roof on his house, but it is really slow-going. The only thing about this state is that with all of the curvy roads and mountains, Bethany, Austin, and I get motion sickness. It feels like everywhere we go, our stomachs just churn. To top it off, I didn't think to get some Gravol with Ginger before we left Canada. I can't seem to find it here in the States. Fortunately, my mil mailed us some from Simcoe. So we should get it by Wednesday. I can't WAAAAAIIIIIITTTTT!! The Dramamine here in the States knocks us out, but the Gravol works without putting us out. We still use our Seabands, but it doesn't seem to work completely.
I am just thinking of the time that we were in Africa. Can you believe that I did not get motion sick even ONE TIME?? I could hardly believe it!! Although the roads there are straight, they can be VERY bumpy. And most of the vehicles we were in did not have air conditioning, and I always sat towards the back. With all of that, no sicky. Amazing, huh?? While I am thinking of Africa, I am reminded of the children there that we had the opportunity to meet. I REALLY miss them!! Every day, they would try to look underneath the gate, waiting for us to come out. we always had our cameras, and they loved posing for their pictures. We would then have to show them what they looked like, and without fail, there were several belly laughs. I just loved listening to them!!
Well, I will stop rambling for now. Have a wonderful week!

Great News, Great News!
Hello, Friends and Loved Ones,
We received some really fantastic news yesterday regarding the Garcia family at Faith Baptist in Hamilton. They came to Canada over 2 1/2 years ago. Originally, they were refugees to the United States from Guatemala. Then, after being in the States for about 14 years, they were told that their visas would not be renewed, and that they would have to leave the country. So the Lord led them to Canada. Prior to that, our church had been praying that the Lord would send us families to help in the ministry there in Hamilton. He answered that prayer. There are 19 people in that family! And they were a tremendous blessing to us while we were there, and continue to be a blessing to the Eagles family. They have just received news that they can stay here and become citizens! What an ANSWER TO PRAYER!!! We are sooooooooooo happy for them and rejoice with them! I know it hasn't been easy for them, just not knowing what their future might be, and now it is finally over! Yea!!
Have a Wonderful Day!

Beautiful
Hello, everyone! Thank you so much for your prayers! Other than a great missions conference here in Montrose, B.C., things have been rather uneventful. I think the Lord knew we really needed this time of rest. He has put us in an area where we wake up to the beautiful, rugged mountains and the lush, green trees. AHHH...SWEET!! To top it all off, to get to Wal-Mart, we have to drive down the mountain, and there is the gorgeous Columbia River snaking its way between a few mountains. I think of how the Lord just SPOKE, and this beautiful creation just came into being. Oh, what a MIGHTY God. THE MIGHTY GOD!!
When Alan and I were in Jacksonville during our missionary training, we had chapel every day. And every day, a different pastor would share with us what the Lord had laid on his heart. While they were all good, there is one that I must never forget. This particular man was Pastor Cummins from South Carolina (I think). Here is how he started off...
" When we read the Word of God, it is important to have some imagination." Now he turns his back on us, and he says, "How many galaxies are there? There are millions of galaxies!! Do you see THAT one? There is the Milky Way, where we live. (Pointing) Do you see that blue speck? That is the Earth. Do you see that tiny little brown speck? That is YOU! And the Lord of all Creation, the Lord of those millions of galaxies, all those planets, and all those tiny little specks, loves YOU!! So much that HE sent His only begotten Son to die on the cross for you. And not only did His Son die for you, but He also knows how many hairs you have on your head!!"...
By this time, I HAD LOST IT!! You could have heard a pin drop.
Friend, God loves YOU!

We're Still Going!!
Hello, Friends, Loved Ones, and Prayer Warriors,
After driving for MANY hours, through rain and strong winds, and then through the mountains has made me realize that there MUST be people praying, and a wonderful loving and merciful Heavenly Father Who loves us and keeps us safe. We are truly grateful for His goodness!! We drove from Russell, Manitoba, to Montrose, B.C. on Friday morning. While that was a LONG day, it was pleasant and uneventful. We drove through Saskatchewan, Alberta, and finally reached our destination at 8 p.m. Montrose time. We left Jason's house at 6:30 that morning. While I was exhausted, I had a shower and woke up. We then stayed up and fellow shipped with our good friends, the Rutherfords. Yeah...we stayed up til MIDNIGHT!!! Can you tell we missed them??!! We had a fantastic time with them!! We will stay in that area for 2 months off and on...I think. Anyway, it is BEAUTIFUL here!! I just LOVE mountains and trees and rivers. Here there are all THREE. EVERYWHERE we look. It is just perfect!! On Friday, we did see a caribou, also. That was really neat! We have been keeping our eyes peeled for other wildlife, but nothing, yet. The boys have big plans. Huge!! They want to go on all sorts of hikes and adventures. I am all for it. But they wanted to go hiking on SATURDAY!! Sorry, kiddos, I just needed a down day to prepare for Sunday. Thankfully, they understood and didn't nag too much.
On Sunday (today), we drove to Creston, B.C., where we were able to share our burden for the Togolese people at Valley View Baptist Church. What a GREAT CHURCH!! This is another one that I highly recommend. They are growing, and friendly, and just have a sweet spirit. We were also very blessed by the many questions that people were asking. We were truly blessed just being there. After the service, we had lunch at Pastor Friesen's home where Mrs. Friesen prepared a delicious taco salad. That hit the spot, and then to top it off, she served a VERY DELICIOUS strawberry cheesecake. I felt bad that I couldn't stay and help with the dishes, but we had to get back on the road. We had to travel a little over an hour to our next church, and there was a time change involved, and that church started at 5 p.m. So, thankfully, there were no troubles on the highway. We made it in good time. So now we had the privilege of being at Kootenay Baptist Church in Cranbrook, where Pastor Steve Swires ministers. We also enjoyed being here. They were a real blessing to us, too. They provided our supper in a nice restaurant, and then provided a motel room for us as well. Pastor Swires didn't want us to travel back through the mountains at night, so that was really nice of them to take care of us like they did. Well, everyone is ready for bed, so I better sign off.
Have a wonderful day,

Tired...But Having Fun
Hello, Everyone!! I know I say this all the time, but I really appreciate your prayers!! Thank you, thank you, thank you!! I just don't want to take them for granted.
Right now, we are enjoying a lazy Canada Day with Jason Massecar, the son of our good friends, Marvin and Marlene. We are in the big city of Russell, Manitoba. Jason is an RCMP, so we have had LOTS of questions about his job. IT SOUNDS REALLY NEAT!! Anyway, we left Sault St. Marie on Tuesday morning and arrived in Grand Forks, North Dakota, that night. After 13 hours of driving, we were ready to stop for the night. I had booked a room that offers a prophet's chamber for FREE to missionaries and pastors. It was a REALLY NICE room!! We thank the Lord for places like these that want to be a blessing. It definitely was!! Then the next morning at 11, we went on to Winnipeg, Manitoba. That only took about 2 1/2 hours from where we were. We went to church at Berean Baptist Church where Pastor Chris Haley and his wife Karen have been ministering for the last 11 years. If you are ever in the area and want a good church to attend, I HIGHLY recommend this one. They have such a great spirit, and it is VERY OBVIOUS that they LOVE missionaries!! Alan and Mrs. Haley have known each other for many years, but I had never really gotten to know her. Her sister, Jennifer Rutherford is a very good friend of mine. Anyway, we had such a wonderful time of fellowship after church. We laughed. A LOT. It was great fun. Time got away from us, and we did not get into our hotel rooms (the church put us up in TWO rooms)until midnight. I am not normally a real night owl, but more often than not, we are having late nights. That's o.k., though. Like I said, we are having a fantastic time!! So today we hit the road at around 9 this morning, and we reached Russell at about 12:45. We picked Jason up and went and got a bite to eat, then we drove to Inglis where we were able to watch a parade for about 10 minutes. After that, we drove over to a lake with a concession stand, where we had ice cream cones and put our feet into the water. It was really relaxing!! So that is where we are now. Tired...but having fun!! We plan on leaving early in the morning and try to reach Trail, B.C., tomorrow. Yeah...we'll see how that goes.:)
We praise the Lord for being so good to us. He has met EVERY need that arose, and helped us jump any hurdle to get this far. And I am so very thankful for the people He places in our path to be a blessing. We (I) are truly UNDESERVING!!

Sault St. Marie
Hello, Everyone!! We have been in the Sault St. Marie area since Saturday afternoon, where we have been VERY BLESSED to fellowship with the good people of Mountain View Baptist Church in Goulais River and Maranatha Baptist Church in Sault St. Marie (pronounced Soo). We have had a terrific time being here, and I can hardly believe that our time here is up. We had the privilege of staying with Pastor Jeff Roberts and his family: Lorelei, Brandon, and Bethany. We are leaving within the hour. We will be traveling to the Grand Forks area, and then on to Winnipeg tomorrow. I have never been to this part of the country, so I am very much looking forward to the drive (that is if I can stay awake!!!). Please continue to pray for journey mercies, and that the Lord will keep the van working in good condition. We thank you for your prayers and thoughts!!

God vs. The principalities of this world
Hello, everyone! I decided to post again while I have time. I want to write about Africa while it is still pretty fresh on my mind. One thing that really sticks out is this:
We were in Contonou, Benin, where we spent some time with Pasteur John Baptiste. We had just come from their Sunday service, and it was now time for lunch, but we needed to exchange our money from U.S. funds to franks. Because it was Sunday, the place where Pasteur Jean usually went was closed, so he had no choice bu to go to the market to find someone there. There are people everywhere who will do this, the tricky thing is to find and HONEST person to do this.
So he approached someone, and explained that he was a pastor, and he asked them not to cheat him. When one of the fellas heard that Pasteur was a pastor, he asked Pasteur Jean to pray for him. So he did. Right then and there. After the prayer, they proceeded to change the funds. Pasteur counted it 2 TIMES. He said it was all there both times, and so he started to walk away. After a few seconds, the many who had asked for prayer came running after him and said that there was some money missing. Pasteur said that that was impossible. That both times he counted it, it was all there. So he counted it a 3rd time. Then he realized that the equivalent of $200 U.S. dollars was missing!! That is what these guys do. They are heavy into voodoo, and they can make it "appear" to be all there! Pasteur had heard about that happening, but had not seen it done until that day. So then the two of them went back to the fella that changed the money and got the rest of it.
I am so glad that we serve the Lord, Who is mightier than any principality and ruler of this old world!! He is Great!!
Have a Wonderful Day,

Sorry
Hello, friends and prayer warriors!! Thank you so much for keeping us in your prayers. We have always said that prayer is what we need most, and it seems like our "Prayer Snowball" is growing. Everywhere we go, we meet more people who pray for us, and we appreciate that.
I am so sorry that it has been a while since I have blogged. I cannot believe how busy we have been. On June 10, we traveled down to Pennsylvania to drop off the children, June 11, Alan and I went on to Blairsville, Georgia to spend an evening with our good friend, Bro. Jim Arnold and his family. Then on June 12, we continued on to Jacksonville, Florida, where we spent a week at missions training school. On June 18, we went back up to Pennsylvania to pick up the children. We decided to stay a few days with our good friends, the Shaw family, and then we drove back up to Hamilton on June 22. We then packed up on June 25 and started for our journey to the west. Today is Saturday, June 26, and right now we are in Saginaw, Michigan. We decided to drive 4 hours yesterday, and then the other 4 hours to Sault St. Marie today. It is nice just to be able to take our time and try to relax. I asked Alan if he felt like he had gotten any rest in the couple of days that we were home. He replied with and EMPHATIC "NNNNOOOOO!!" Poor guy. Anyway, on Wednesday, June 30, we will stop by and see Pastor and Mrs. Haley in Winniepeg, where we will drop off some hymn books. Then on Sunday we will be in Creston, B.C. From there we will travel the short 1 1/2 hours to Trail, B.C., where we will spend a few days and a missions conference with our really good friends, Pastor and Mrs. Rutherford and family. After that, we will be in Utah, Idaho, Washington and again in B.C. All of this traveling will take us to the end of August. We are not sure when we will be back in Ontario, but we are to be in a missions conference the first of October. So that is where we are. Hopefully, we will be in some contact with internet so that I can do a better job of blogging. If not, just know that GOD IS GOOD!! And we ONLY want to be in HIS perfect will. So that is our prayer.
Have a wonderful day,

Sorry, Still Trying to Keep Up!!
Hello, praying friends and loved ones, thank you, thank you, thank you so much for praying for us. Please know that your prayers DO NOT go unappreciated! I am sorry that we have not been keeping up to date on the blog. Right now, Alan and I are in Jacksonville, Florida, where we have been at missionary candidate training school since Monday. Unfortunately, we had to leave the children in Pennsylvania, where they are staying with close friends of the family. I do that Mrs. Shaw is keeping them busy and that they are having a terrific time. I also realize that I still have not posted a lot about our trip to Africa. I still plan on doing that, it will just take time, so bear with me.
So, as I stated earlier, Alan and I are in Florida. We left Hamilton on Thursday and arrived in Pennsylvania that evening. We enjoyed a delicious dinner with with their family, and then Alan and I left at 5:00 the next morning for Blairsville, Georgia. There, we were to stay with Bro. Arnold and his wife Denise and their family. Well, on the drive down, Alan and I kept asking ourselves if maybe the Lord didn't want us to take the trip. It was really weird. There were several things that happened on the way down, and I hope I can remember it all.
We were driving on the highway and an aluminum ladder fell off of a truck. So the ladder is in the middle of the road, and an 18-wheeler is going along just in front of us and it runs over the ladder, which flies up toward my window. Just before it hit my window, it seemed to stop mid-air and flew past us and then the two cars behind us ran over it. Thankfully, there was no serious accident and I can only imagine what would have happened if it came through the window. We PRAISE THE LORD for His Protection!! Then, about 10 minutes later, traffic stopped suddenly, because there was a serious accident that had just occurred 10 minutes BEFORE! I don't know how many people were involved, nor if anyone was seriously injured, but a pick-up truck pulling an r.v. type trailer jackknifed and half of it went off the road, and the other other half stayed on the road. So we were stuck there for an hour and a half before the road was cleared. I am not trying to make this about us, but our gas tank was on empty, and we could not move. So the Lord really took care of us by keeping gas in the tank until we could get to a station. Then we started going through the mountains of Georgia, and the brakes got so hot that it effected the rotors and we had to get them turned.
So anyway, now we have made it through a week of training, and are now a part of Baptist Missions to Forgotten Peoples. And tomorrow we get to start towards home and pick up our children on the way. I can hardly wait to see them.
Having said all that, we can not express our thanks enough for praying for us. We love you, and we love the Saviour!!
Have a wonderful day,

Love,
Ida

W.A.W.A
Hello, praying friends!! I am so sorry that it has taken me this long to blog! Thanks so much for praying during our journey to Africa and back. Today is Tuesday, and we arrived from Ghana at 2:00 a.m. on Saturday. On Saturday, we picked up 2 of the children and tried to rest and get pictures printed for Sunday School the next day. Then on Sunday, we drove to Simcoe to be at Bethel Baptist Church, where we spent the whole day. So now I will take some time to tell you about how things went while in Africa. May I encourage you, that when the Lord places someone in your heart for any amount of time, to PLEASE pray for them at that EXACT moment. They may never know that you did that for them, and that is ok. We do not know what others are going through, and we really DON'T HAVE to know, just pray. There is a reason that the Lord has placed that person on your heart at that exact moment. Having said that, I will proceed to write about our experiences.
When we our plane touched down in Ghana, it was such an exciting, but kind of scary thing. We were being herded to customs, and we (Brendin and I) did not know what to expect. We (I) have the perception to somehow have this GREAT fear for those who are in customs. However, we told them that we were missionaries, and they let us through with no problems at all. It then took some time to locate our luggage, but fortunately, everything was there! What we were to experience next was so scary. First the heat hits you like a brick wall. It was around 8 p.m., and and REALLY dark, and extremely hot and humid. So as we begin walking to the car, we are immediately SURROUNDED with men who "want" to help us with our things. Now the thing is, Pastor Bohmah, a pastor that we know personally said that he hired a team to help us, but we did not know who all was in this team. And we were told to NEVER take your hands off of your bags, and NEVER allow anyone to touch your bags. So the whole way to the car, we are doing our best to keep up with Bro. Arnold and Alan and the rest, which by the way, walk VERY quickly:) But these fellows are constantly IN YOUR FACE, and what they were trying to do was separate us from each other. I don't think they meant any harm; this is what they do to make a living. Well, when we got to the van, we were standing there and waiting, and it just seemed so CHAOTIC. I took my hand off of one of my suitcases for one second, and someone grabbed it and put it in the van. Then he turned to me and said, "A little something for the boys, we helped you." Well, I didn't carry any money with me, and I told him that. But they are very persistent, and would get in our way, making it hard to move forward. Well, after what seemed like hours, (I know in reality it was minutes) we finally jumped in another vehicle and made it to the guesthouse that we would be staying in for 2 nights until we traveled to Benin on Saturday.
So on Saturday, we traveled to Benin. Now, Ghana is on the West, Togo in the middle, and Benin on the East, but those 3 countries are all in a row. And as you reach each border, each person has to fill out a disembarking form for the country that you are leaving, and then walk across the road to the other country, and fill out forms to get a visa. Mind you, we only drove through Togo, but we still had to do all of that paperwork, even to drive through it. Everything was hand written. So they had these big books that looked like old accountants' books, and they had to write ALL of the passport information on each person by HAND. So that took some time. 5 national pastors showed up to help us get through each border. They were truly a blessing. Even Pasteur Jean Baptist who came all the way from Benin was there to meet us. So we get through the Ghana and Togo border, and now we arrive at the Benin border and fill out all the paper work for that country. By this time it was several hours later. There, the border guards are so friendly. However, they would only give us a 48-hour visa each. But they said, go on Monday (this was Saturday) and have it extended. (We had just paid $30 U.S. for a visa.) It won't cost you a thing. So we get to the place where we will be staying for the duration of our stay in Benin, and have a GREAT weekend, and then Monday rolls around. It is a national holiday, and the government offices are closed. So Pasteur Jean says, no problem, we can just go on Tuesday. So it is decided that Pasteur Jean would take all of our passports, and on his way to pick us up on Tuesday, he would stop at the immigration office and have our visas extended. He is the first one there, but the office quickly fills up with white-skinned people. So he realizes why when he speaks to a representative. Who proceeds to tell him that we are in the country illegally because our visa is expired. And by the way this representative already had our passports and would not return them. He continued to tell the pasteur that it would take 2 more days and meeting the mayor and all of these other people and go through a long process to be able to get our visa and passports back. Pasteur Jean explained that we had to leave before that time. So the representative went on to say that there "might be another way". That for I think it was equivalent to $30 U.S., each person, he could speed up the transaction and we would have our passports back that night (This would be on Tuesday night, and we were due to leave on Wed.). He was told to be back at 6 p.m. to pick them up, as they would be ready by then. Well, when he went back that night, they were still not ready, and "by the way, now I need $24 from each person to finish the transaction". Pasteur said, but they ALREADY paid for the transaction! Why do you need more?? The rep. said that now he needed HIS part, for processing it so quickly. So now in total, we spent and extra $84 EACH person just to get our passport back. Hence the W.A.W.A. That means West Africa Wins Again. That whole day was spent in prayer. I just had this funny feeling, and I knew that the Lord would once again have to come to our rescue. I also kept thinking, "How am I going to call our children and let them know that we would not be home for a couple of years because we were in the slammer???" I know that kind of thinking was a bit extreme, but when Pasteur went back at 6, they still weren't ready, and he would need to come back that night. So imagine my relief when he showed up at 8 p.m. with passports in hand! So, other than that one trying time there in Benin, we really enjoyed being there, and seeing Pasteur Jean's heart and getting to know him and his family better, was one of the biggest blessings throughout the WHOLE trip. As a matter of fact, I cried when we had to say good bye to him. I would like to recommend that if you have a real burden to help someone in Africa, would you consider Pastuer Jean Baptist in Benin? He and his family and church people are all so humble, and truly appreciated that we would come and spend some time with them. I am really, really grateful for them. While we were there, we had to hire a driver and a van big enough to hold all of us. And in order to save US some money, the church took care of our gas for us. What a kind gesture!! These people don't have much, and yet they wanted to be a blessing to us. And they were!
Well, I hope you all have a wonderful day!

Africa Day 2 and 3
Hi everyone, thanks for praying. On Saturday we travelled from Accra, Ghana to Lome, Togo (4 hours) and then from Lome, Togo to Cotonou, Benin (3.5 hours). This was a hard trip in é vans, one without any air conditioning. Both borders you have to walk across, checking ouit of one country and buy a visa for the next one. It made for a long, hot 10 hour day. Such is life in Africa. Sunday I preached in the Baptist church in Cotonou, Benin. There was a great spirit. The music and singing where phenomenal. Gotta go, french keyboard is slowing me down.

Hello, From Ghana
Hello, praying friends! As you can see from the title, we have arrived here in Ghana. Wow! As I see the people and their trying make a living, it reminds me of just how blessed we are in North America. The people here are very kind. When we got off the plane, we went through customs very quickly and Pastor Bohmah was there to meet us. He had a team of young men to help us with our luggage. All of the luggage went in one van, and we got into another van. We were surrounded with men trying to take our bags from us so that they could put them in the vans for us. But the rule here is not to let anyone touch your bags if you don't think you can outrun them. Once the bags were put in the vehicle for us, they would not leave us alone because now we had to pay them. When they approached me with "A little something for the boys because they did work for you", I just sent them to Alan:) We are resting today, as tomorrow we will be traveling to Benin. Apparently, it will take the whole day to get there. It feels very hot and humid here, but we are staying in a guesthouse for missionaries right now, and it has a window unit.
Well, others are waiting for the internet, so I will sign off for now.

Another Supporting Church
Hello, Friends, I pray that all is well with you all. If there is ever anything we can pray about for you, we would LOVE to do that!! And thank you for praying for us! We made it safely back to Hamilton from a 3-week trip to Nova Scotia. Things went well, and for that we praise the LORD!!
We also praise the Lord for that Amherst Bible Church in Amherst, NS, voted to take us on for support! The church had an amazing spirit. Everyone was so friendly, and genuinely took interest in our ministry. That week, they happened to have an evangelist in. His name is Gerald Fielder. What a great preacher! We enjoyed sitting under the sound preaching, and getting to know him during Sunday lunch. So we went to church on that Saturday night with them, and then on Sunday, Alan was able to preach to the Adult S.S. then give a testimony and show the dvd during the morning church service. Just before the evangelist came up to preach, Pastor Grooms got up in front of the church, and made this announcement:
I am a little O.C. D., and I have to do this right now. I can't go on with the rest of the service,
or I won't be able to enjoy it. But I really feel like the Lord wants me to do this. It is a bit
unconventional. I really feel like we should take the Feeres on for $100 a month. We are
going to vote on this. All in favour say "Aye". All opposed, meet me down at the altar after
the service.
And just like that, we now have a new supporting church. I could not stop the flow of tears!! What a blessing this church has been to us! Again, the Lord put people in our path that I know will pray for us! Our prayer snowball is getting bigger!
While this was going on, our pastor back in our sending church at Bethel Baptist Church in Simcoe, Ontario, resigned. Please pray for Pastor Bohman and his family as well as the church. Alan and I both feel badly that we could not be there while this was going on, but fortunately Alan will be able to help them a little by filling in the pulpit a few times.
Tomorrow, Alan, Brendin, Cody, and I will be taking the long-awaited trip to Togo. The place is abuzz around here, getting everyone ready for their different places. I will miss the 3 younger children TERRIBLY!! I know that they will get along well, wherever they will be, but still...
We are praying that the volcano in Iceland (or Greenland, wherever it is) stops spewing out ashes so that we can land in Amsterdam as planned. I know that the Lord will take us to wherever HE wants us, so I will not fear:)
Well, I know this is short, but I really MUST get packing. I don't know if I will be able to blog while in Africa, so you many not hear from us until after June 6. Au revoir!
Have a wonderful day!

Snarky Lady Turns Friendly
Hello, again, friends! Thank you so much for praying for our family. I am really excited to be getting back to them today! As much as I enjoyed a couple of days "off", I really miss them. Last night after church, I went out with a couple of ladies. Now these ladies are older, one 87 years, and the other in her late 60's. We went out for Chinese (I had already had supper with the Eagles). The food was great, the fellowship, excellent, but boy am I ever tired!! I didn't get back to the church until close to 11:30!! But I am glad to have had the opportunity.
Faith Eagles has been so good to me (she has a sweet servant's heart). Not only did she pick me up from the Hamilton Airport on Tuesday, but she also drove me downtown yesterday, had me over for supper, and is driving me back to the airport! Isn't she so sweet??!!
Yesterday's citizenship ceremony went well. After Faith dropped me off, I met my MIL (thanks, Mom, for taking time out of your busy schedule to join me for this) and we had lunch in the same building that the ceremony was to take place, so we didn't have far to go. It took some time to get the ceremony started as there were I think 68 of us, and documentation had to be checked on each of us. However, they seemed pretty efficient. The judge was really good. He gave a lot of Canadian history, talking about the diversity of Canada. That took a while, and then everyone in the room took the oath. After that was done, each name was called, and just like at a graduation, we went forward and received our certificate, and signed the oath. He took the time to ask each person ,or family in some cases, where they were from, and he seemed to really enjoy talking with each one. My eyes welled up when he announced a beautiful family of 5 from the Sudan. I don't know why; I think I was just emotional anyway. While there were many cultures represented, the largest group was the Filipinos. We then sang O Canada, and were dismissed. The whole thing only took an hour.
After Mom and I said our goodbye's, I walked across the street to the passport office. The young clerk that I had to deal with was a little snarky at first. On my application, I wrote that I was traveling to Togo on May 19. So she asked me how long it took to get a visa from there. I told her a week. She said, "There's no way to process this passport AND get your visa by the time you need to leave." I said, "Oh, I already got the visa; it's in my U.S. passport." Then she said, "How is that going to work? You know, coming back to Canada without your passport having been stamped." I really didn't know at that time where she was going with her questioning, and she is still kind of snooty at this time. So I went on to tell her that I would be
traveling FROM the U.S., and when I got back, I would LAND in the U.S., and drive back into Canada. For some reason, we were not seeing eye to eye, and she goes on to tell me that I "need to do my homework and make some phone calls before I leave. That what I was doing would NOT work." I thought in my head, "Lady, you don't know Who actually is controlling things around here!", but I said out loud, "You know, I am just going to pray for a REALLY nice and understanding border guard!!" That made her laugh, and she said, "I like that answer!" Then, she was fine, and proceeded to tell me about the day of HER citizenship ceremony. So we had a really nice conversation. She informed me that I can pick up my passport on Tuesday, the 18th. That's the DAY BEFORE WE LEAVE!!! Who's in control, indeed:) PRAISE THE LORD!!!!
I am off to join my wonderful family in New Brunswick. Yay!
Have a wonderful day!

PRAISE THE LORD! PRAISE THE LORD!
That is what I have crying out in my heart for the last 10 days, and what I want to shout from the mountain tops!!!! I am really emotional about this, because on April 15, I did something that was completely DUMB!!! Here is the story--it may be kind of long...but you're not surprised, are you?:)
Just after I wrote the Canadian Citizenship test on April 15, I did not realize that I had lost one of the most important documents to a landed immigrant: my landing paper. 15 years ago, I was instructed to ALWAYS keep that paper in my passport, as it would grant me entrance back into Canada. However, on this particular day, I needed that paper to prove my landed status, and I had it at that time. I remember coming home and looking for a stapler to staple it back into the passport...and that all I remember. I think I may have tossed it in the garbage with some junk mail that came in that day, but I guess I got sidetracked, and wasn't paying attention to what I was doing...I really don't know what I was thinking! The thing is, I didn't realize it was missing until almost a week later when we went to the States for something. Thankfully, the guard we talked to was understanding, so she did let us all back into Canada. Everything would have been fine and dandy if I had a P.R. (permanent residence) card, which allows immigrants to travel back and forth. When the government first came out with this card, they made it sound like you ONLY needed it if you were going to be flying. Well, we thought that if I were ever to fly anywhere, it would be out of Buffalo, so we did not see the need for one...
Well, I tore the place apart, but nothing. Worry and fear shot right through me. In a month, we would be travelling to Togo...If anyone mentioned it, I would immediately start sweating and worrying. I did go back to the immigration office to see if perhaps I had left it behind. The lady there was VERY helpful, but she did not find it. She did photocopy it from her files, but she said it would not help in getting me into the country should I leave. She said that I would need to apply for a P.R. card (it takes a minimum of 105 days to process), and I would need to go to the police and file a report for lost property (for the oath for citizenship, one has to either have the landing paper or the police report). Now, this was the day that we were leaving for a missions conference at Kitchener Baptist Church, so that was our priority, but I did begin working on the application. That following Monday, after getting Pastor Wyatt to sign the needed documents (he was at work at the time), we headed to Simcoe to see Alan's mom, and there we overnight-expressed it to Sydney, Nova Scotia, to be processed. I was told to put "Urgent--traveling outside of Canada on May 19". Needless to say, I wrote it several times! This was on April 24. With the timing of our travels, things just seemed impossible.
On the spiritual side of things, I was kind of in trouble. I KNEW that the Lord was working on me. I KNOW exactly what He was trying to teach me. THAT HE IS IN CONTROL! This worrying was for those who don't depend on Him. It took me a few days, and let me tell you, it was U.N.C.O.M.F.O.R.T.A.B.L.E.!!! Through prayer and daily Bible reading, He showed me from the book of Joshua where time after time, GOD SUPPLIED!! And when things looked impossible to us, to our great and mighty God, it was NOTHING!! I purposefully didn't blog about it, because I knew that I needed to completely depend on Him (I knew you guys were already praying...thank you!!) One day I was reading Psalm 118, where David says, "I will not fear what man can do unto me" (or something like that!) Finally, after many days, if anyone mentioned it there were no flip-flops in my stomach. The headaches didn't happen. I didn't start sweating. It was sweet, sweet, peace. Instead, I would smile, and say, "I can't wait to see how HE gets me out of this one!" God is so good!
So now we start out for our East Coast trip. We were to be there for 3 Sundays. We left on Friday. On Monday, Pastor Eagles called my ever so patient hubby, and told him that I had received a letter saying that I was to be taking the oath of citizenship in a week and a half on May 12. My heart REJOICED, and to this day, I still get emotional. You see, on the day of the test, we were told that if we passed, we would get a letter in 6-8 WEEKS to let us know when our swearing in would be. Allow me to work the calendar for you: The test was taken o April 15, I become a Canadian on May 12. The total time is less than a MONTH!! Here's the thing, I thought that maybe God allowed someone in Sydney processing the P.R. card, to call immigration here in Hamilton and just have them push my date forward. But I am pretty sure that didn't happen, because as I was typing this post (not more than 1 minute ago)I received a call from immigration who told me that my P.R. card was in, and I could pick it up any time!!!!!!! I just started laughing and when I told the lady on the phone about being sworn in today, she laughed really hard, too, and said, "I must say, this is the first time I have ever seen that happen!" I can hardly keep the tears from flowing!!
Well, I am off to become a Canadian! Thank you, thank you, thank you for all your prayers! We serve a God who cares!! And I am so glad that HE is in CONTROL!

Have a wonderful day!

Bethy is 7!!
Unbelievable!! I cannot believe that our baby is 7 years old! And what a blessing she is!! It seems that at every church we go to, she seems to pick up another best friend! As a matter of fact, I feel terrible because she has 3 emails waiting for her reply...from 3 different people! I am sorry! She hasn't forgotten you! When we were leaving the last church we were in, and she was talking about yet another friend she made, Austin said,"Bethany, you could meet a friend in the morgue!!" We all had a good laugh over that one!
I am in Hamilton right now, while the rest of the family is out in New Brunswick (I will post about that in a minute), and I wanted to call and check up on them. So when I phoned Miss Winnie's house, Winnie answered and told me about what happened just a few minutes before I calle. Here's what she said to Bethany before they began eating breakfast:
Winnie: When we pray and thank the Lord for our breakfast, we should also remember to pray for Mommy because she is going to become a Canadian today, and she might be nervous.
Bethany: Does this mean that she is going to be WHITE??!!:)
Winnie thought that would make my day, and it did!
I don't know about that child.
Have a great day,

Churches
Hello, you will probably see a few new blogs all at once. I finally have some internet access, some quiet, and some time all at the SAME time. I just wanted to let you know of the churches that we have been in the last couple of weeks. Our first Sunday in Nova Scotia was spent at Calvary Baptist Church in Plympton. The people there were so sweet. You know, it is so amazing to me that in every church we have gone to so far, the Lord just puts people in our paths that we KNOW will pray for us. This church was no different. Pastor Steve Stone and his wife were so kind and their people followed suit. We enjoyed a nice lunch with them and then went back to the Norton home before the evening service. After the evening service was a fellowship, so we were able to get to know some of the people a little better. We really enjoyed visiting here.
The following Wednesday night, we joined Pastor Robbie Millburn and his wife for supper before attending their church, Heritage Baptist Church in Shubenacadie (I really hope I spelled that right). Dinner was delicious, and the fellowship was sweet. Now, the church is small, but we were there on Wed. I know that only a fraction of people attend the mid-week prayer service, so I don't know exactly how many it runs. I say all that to say this: the spirit there was amazing!! The Lord has definitely blessed this fine congregation. The pastor and his wife are two of the sweetest people you would ever meet. One thing that really impressed me was this: There is a young couple that goes there. They are FaithWay graduates and VERY talented in many ways. This couple could most likely have gotten hired on to work in any good-sized church and be used there. But their hearts were to go back East and be used of God there. He is the assistant (I don't even know if he gets a salary), and she, the pianist. So they have chosen to join this church and help with whatever needs to be done. Can you imagine the blessing that this young couple is to the pastor?! I am so glad to see them just follow the Lord. You see, about 2 1/2 years ago, my husband tried to interview them for the job of Assistant Pastor at Faith Baptist in Hamilton. However, the Lord simply would not allow it to happen. The interview was scheduled and rescheduled during the Christmas season, and so finally, on the only Sunday that they were free to attend the church and meet the people, God sent the biggest snowstorm of the year. Travel that day just wasn't going to happen. I now see God's divine plan, and am so glad that they just followed the Lord.
Another family we met there were the MacDonald family. What an amazing family! There are EIGHT children, and they all work beautifully together to make the home a happy place. I was IMPRESSED! Because the drive back to the Norton home was about 2 1/2 hours, we decided to stay the night at this family's home. Now, they have 2 houses on their property. The one we stayed in, they use it specifically for people like us. They thought we were going to stay a few days, so they loaded us up with TONS of groceries, including homemade bread and muffins. We each had a comfortable bed to sleep in, and it was just PERFECT! After the church service, we joined them for ice cream in their home. It was a late night, but we just felt so at home with them. It was like we had known them forever. Early the next morning, Austin just couldn't sleep, so he went down the lane to their house and knocked on their door. They were having breakfast. They handed him a fishing pole and said, "Here, you can go fishing." He actually caught something, too. This family owns over 100 acres of land, so our children really had a grand time exploring and just being kids. I don't think any of them would have protested if we would have "forgotten" them. They just DID NOT want to leave! But, all good things must come to an end. If we are ever in the area, I would love to stop and pick up right where we left off.
We went to Peggy's Cove for about an hour and then headed back to Bear River. We used the back roads. Needless to say, half of us were car sick. The roads are very windy and there are many hills. Bethany had never been car sick until now. Hopefully she outgrows it.
The following Sunday, we attended Habitation Baptist Church. Here, we met some really nice and genuine people. Then we had lunch at one of the family member's home. It was delicious! Barbecued hamburgers and hot dogs. Boy, did it make us miss our barbecue! Again, we had a really good visit.
The evening service was spent at Amazing Grace Baptist Church. And although it is a smaller church, it was packed. The spirit here was really sweet. It was obvious that the Lord is blessing. After the service, we joined the pastor's family in their home for some pizza and fellowship. We had a wonderful time! Alan and Pastor Lake REALLY hit it off! It was almost midnight by the time we got back to the Norton home. The night was late, the the fellowship great!
Well, I have rambled on for quite some time, so I will give your eyes a break. Tomorrow, I will post about something that still makes my eyes well up with tears, and my heart praise the Lord. I am excited to be able to share this good news with you, but I need to rest my fingers. So, have a wonderful evening, and I will share more of what the Lord is doing in the morning!

Nova Scotia
Hello, friends, thank you, thank you, thank you for all of your prayers!! Not only has the Lord given us safety on the road, but lodging as well. He is so good, and He has placed good people in our path that He uses to be a blessing to us. We are so grateful!!
Well, we have been in Bear River, Nova Scotia, since last Saturday. Is it ever beautiful out there!!! The home that we stayed in belonged to the Nortons who used to come to our church here in Hamilton until they moved out East. They bought this property about 7 years ago for cheaper than cheap. The house had not been used for 27 years. So Mr. N. gutted the whole place and started over, and he did a terrific job! It was very comfortable, and everyone had their own comfortable beds, except for the girls, but they don't mind sharing! The backyard for this home is the Bear River, and you can see it fill up with water, and then go down as the tide comes in and out. It is just beautiful.
They happened to take a trip back to Ontario during the time that we were there, and wouldn't you know it, my greatest fear happened. Something went wrong with the washer. I don't know what it was, but I just felt sick about it. They assured me it was nothing I did, and that it could have happened to anyone, but because it happened on my watch, I just feel terrible about it!
Anyway, we had a terrific stay with them, and the little time that they were with us, we had a great time getting to know them better.
This past Monday, we left Nova Scotia and travelled to New Brunswick, which is the next province back, but this time instead of driving, we took the ferry:( ugh!! I will tell you about that in a separate blog. We are now staying with a lady in MacAdam, New Brunswick, who is very much like a grandmother to us. She also attended our church in Hamilton until she moved away. (Am I seeing a pattern here?!)We just arrived there this past Monday, and will leave her home on Saturday. Then we will travel to Amhearst, Nova Scotia, (right on the border of both provinces) for a Sunday meeting. After that service, we will head back to Ontario to prepare for our trip to TOGO. Yay!! Everything is in order, and we will leave on Wednesday, May 19. I am just beside myself!! Have a wonderful evening!

John MacDonald
Hello, everyone, I am back! You may remember a previous post I wrote back in January sometime about a baseball player for the Blue Jays. Well, this year, we wanted to try to surprise Brendin for his 13th birthday. We contacted the assistant pastor, Bro. Bradley Edmondson, from Calvary Baptist Church in Ohio. His wife is good friends with MacDonald's wife. Sometimes MacDonald gives passes to meet with people after the game. But things didn't work out. Seeing as how we promised to take Brendin to a game for his birthday, Tuedsay was the only day we could go this week. I wasn't planning on going as there was sooooo much to do, but Brendin really wanted me to go because he knows how much I enjoy going to games. So I decided to go, and am I ever glad I did!! We were early (of course), and were watching the Red Sox practice. The Jays had already practiced. Anyway, besides the Red Sox team, the only Blue Jays player on the field was: you guessed it, JOHN MACDONALD!! So Alan called over to him and told him that we knew Bradley Edmondson. So he came over and talked to us!! That was pretty exciting! You can see a picture of him and Brendin on Brendin's blog. Doesn't he have a beautiful smile?????!!! Besides his smile, he is a phenomenal player!! I just LOVE watching him play. I do have to keep telling myself, He is just a man!!
Back to real life. We are on our way to the East Coast. Right now, we are in Riviere-Du-Loup, Quebec. It is beautiful here! We left at 5 a.m. today, and we should get to our destination in Bear River, Nova Scotia, tomorrow night. We took some time this afternoon and toured the old Quebec City. That was interesting, but I was surely glad to get to the motel tonight!
Well, I have to get the young 'uns to bed for an early morning!

Kitchener Baptist Missions Conference
Hello, everyone! Thank you so much for praying for us. I don't mean to be redundant, but you just don't know how much our family appreciates your praying for us. The LORD is good!!
Well, last weekend, we had the privilege of being at KBC's missions conference, and what a wonderful time we had! Alan was the main speaker, and he says that he has always feels great liberty to preach the Word there. The altar was used at every service. Praise the LORD! KBC was very generous by putting us up in a beautiful motel. It was perfect! We kind of feel like home there. They are planting a church in Stratford this week. Would you please pray for Pastor Robinson and his family? We were blessed to have met them, and we know that the Lord will use them in a wonderful way. It was such a blessing to see someone come to Canada and start a new work. KBC has great musical talent, and it was a blessing to be able to hear some of that talent.
I was especially impressed with a particular young lady. I won't mention her name because I don't want to embarrass her, but I really believe that the LORD will use her in a tremendous way. She has such a servant's heart, and I know that she is an encouragement to her pastor and youth pastor.
We had some terrific fellowship with Pastor and Mrs. Clayton. We always enjoy getting together with them. It was great getting to know the Burns and the Danyluck families a little better. It was really a wonderful week, and it seemed to come to an end rather quickly:(
There were 2 other missionary families that I was so thrilled to have met: Bro. and Mrs. Paul Szbatin and their son, missionaries to the Native people in Alberta, and Bro. and Mrs. Bartley and their family, missionaries to St. Lucia (the Carribbean). The 2 ladies are sisters. Anyway, I find it a great blessing to meet other families going to the mission field.
Well, thanks for reading!

Appendicitis??
Hello, friends and loved ones! Thank you so much for praying! Much has happened around here, and because I am so long-winded, I will divide the blogs up according to events. For now, I am asking prayer for our Bethany. Since Friday a week ago, she has been suffering from lower right abdominal pain off and on. There are NO other symptoms. Well, because she tends to be a bit of a drama queen, I have not taken her in to see anyone...until last night, when I took her in to the ER. She doesn't ever seem to be in pain when she is doing something fun, and they checked her urine at the ER, which was negative for infection. The dr. said that most children who come in with abdominal pain will have it for a little while, and then it goes away, without knowing the cause. Apparently this is fairly common. So I will keep praying and watching, and I ask you to pray as well. I appreciate it!! We are due to leave for Nova Scotia on Friday, and we will be away for the next 3 Sundays. Soooo...hopefully he is right. Thanks for praying!

Faith Baptist Missions Conference
Hello, Friends and loved ones, thanks for stopping by our little corner of the web. Again, we REALLY appreciate your prayers and are thankful for your friendship.
This past Friday was the beginning of the conference here at the church that we have belonged to for the last 15 years. Except for a few illnesses, the conference was great. Let me start off by saying that on Thursday, Alan woke up and whispered to me, "I am losing my voice; I can hardly talk!" Jokingly, I said, "OOOHH, it's going to be a great day!!!" Then he reminded me: "I have to preach this weekend." And reality set in. (There's no way he can preach like this!) Since Thursday, he has had a serious sore throat. He drank tea, took Motrin continuously, etc. But still, his throat became more and more painful. On Saturday evening, Mrs. Eagles became very ill, and just couldn't keep anything down. Then on Sunday morning, Austin came down with it. About an hour later, Emily decided to join them all. There was another family in the church whose 2 children also had the same thing on Sunday. Thankfully, for Em and Austin, so far, it looks like it has taken its course, and they are on the mend. We keep praying for Alan, Mrs. Eagles, and the other 2 children. I was able to get Alan in to see a dr. today. I thought he maybe had strep throat. This clinic is neat because it is an after hours clinic where 15-20 doctors including our family dr. participate in taking turns covering each other after regular office hours and on the weekend. So, it is possible to see our own dr. at some point. So I called the clinic at 5:45, and she said tell him to come right in. So he was in and out within 10 minutes. Apparently there is a really nasty virus going around that includes either a cough, fever, and sore throat, or that same virus will affect people with nausea and vomiting. This dr. said that Alan's virus somehow "stuck" in his throat and caused his tonsils and the back of his tongue to swell. (I am sure preaching 4 messages did nothing to help his condition) So as far as the soreness of the throat went, that couldn't be helped, but he did prescribe him a one-dose steroid that would bring the swelling down. Alan took it at the drugstore per the pharmacist and waited around for about 15 minutes to see if there would be any reaction. Since there wasn't any, he left. After about 30 minutes, he really noticed a difference. On Friday and Saturday, Bethany was complaining of her right side hurting. After checking with Alan, he confirmed that it was in the exact area where her appendix is. (His appendix burst when he was 10, so I figure he knows what he is talking about). However, other than some pain in that area when she coughs or laughs, she has no more symptoms. So I am keeping a really close eye on her. Brendin has a sinus infection (I think) and is feeling miserable, and I am fighting a cold (I hope it is just a cold!). Do you think that maybe Satan didn't want this conference to happen??
I say all that to say this: Despite everything that went on behind the scenes, the LORD is good! The conference went well, and while attendance was down on Friday night, it picked up on Saturday and Sunday. The LORD touched lives and worked on hearts. The altar was used at every service, and at one service, it was FULL!! Besides us, the Nick and Susan Ruby family (missionaries to El Salvador) was there. We have enjoyed being in 3 conferences with them. They have always been a blessing to us, and we appreciate their ministry. The conference started off with a late lunch with the Eagles, Rubys, Jimenez (assistant pastor) family, and us. It was delicious! They grilled chicken breast, had salad, and rice. For dessert, there was mixed berries with whipped cream. Then on Saturday night, after the service, we celebrated Brendin's birthday with the teens and the Rubys. On Sunday, we were supposed to have lunch with the Eagles family, but because most everyone was feeling rotten, Pastor Eagles ordered Wendy's for everyone, and we went our separate ways. At 2:00, there is a Spanish service that takes place at the church, and there were 38 people present!! What a blessing! We were so thrilled for Pastor Garcia and his family!
Please pray for Kitchener Baptist Church's Missions Conference beginning this Thursday. We are really excited to be in their conference. We know Pastor Clayton and his family personally and they have a GREAT heart for missions. Prayerfully, everyone will be better; but if not, we have already learned that the LORD will have HIS way!!
Have a wonderful day,

It's Official
Hello, friends, we pray that all is well with you, and if there is anything we can do for you, please do not hesitate to contact us. Thank you so much for your prayers...they are definitely appreciated!
Well, as the title of this post states, it is official. We are now the parents of a...TEENAGER!!!
I can hardly believe it! So your prayers are definitely needed:) Actually, the first day of teen hood has been pretty good. He did something on his own that I normally have to ask him to do. What a blessing that was! I was told last week as a word of encouragement that during the first two years, teenagers' brains are pretty much broken. I am hoping she was teasing!! But we will soon find out! We are so thankful for all of our children. They are each an asset to this family, and my prayer is that they would honour and serve the Lord in whatever capacity that He would have for them.
Happy 13th Birthday, Brendin! We love you very much!!

Heritage Baptist Church: Part 3
Hello, everyone! What a blessing it is to serve the Lord! Thanks so much for praying for our family! I am going to try to make this short...we'll see how that goes:)
Let me start off by telling you that at each service, one representative from every missionary family had to go before the church with a reasonable need that could be taken care of by any one in the church. That was hard! Because the Lord has blessed, and we had such a hard time coming up with needs that we still had. So, here were the needs that we requested and were met: 1)The spark plugs in the van were changed. 2)Someone tried to meet the need of Austin's dress clothes. One family brought in a suit jacket and a suit that they were saving for THEIR son. This thought really blessed us, however, they were a bit small on him. But he did get a pair of blue pants and a pair of shoes. 3)Alan mentioned that with Bethany's dry eyes, we were constantly buying fake tears and Polysporin Antibiotics for her eyes. Several people brought in both, and one person even donated some money towards buying some. I was just in awe!! Just before the evening service started, I showed Bethany all those blessings that people brought in for her, and her response was: "Boy, am I SPOILED!!" It was funny because I told her that someone even talked with the pharmacist, and taking the pharmacist's advice, bought the best kind, just for her! Well, later that night, while we were at the Pennell's house for supper, she was obviously having trouble with her eyes, so I put some drops in them for her. Well, I used the already opened bottle that I had in my purse, as there was still some in it. Thinking that I was using the new stuff, she said, "Wow, that IS the best kind! It didn't even make me dizzy like that other kind!" Hmmm...I didn't tell her that it actually was the OLD stuff:) 4) For the last service, Alan just told the people how that our children LOVE to read books, and that we would be travelling for long periods of time, and books would be helpful. Well, we didn't receive any that night, but the next morning when we picked up the display board, I think they gave us half of the school library!! I may be exaggerating some here, but there were certainly MANY books! Thanks so much for being such a blessing to our family!
So Mrs. Pennell also provided lunch for us. I tell you, she was a busy lady!! That night, after the service, the church voted to take on all the missionary families present. That included Nick and Susan Ruby to El Salvador, Bro. and Mrs. Townsley, planting a church in Terryville, Connecticut, and our family. It was also during this evening service that Pastor Pennell called each missionary husband up, along with his wife. Do you remember my stating earlier that Alan had to "see" the room before we checked in? Well, in that envelope with all the instructions were also instructions for the husbands to have something written for their wives about how much they appreciate, love and are thankful for her. I guess Alan and Bro. Nick got together Sunday afternoon after telling us that they were just going out for "coffee". So, as a surprise to each wife, the husband read to her what he wrote, and then she was presented with a rose and a gift card for Home Sense. It was REALLY sweet! This must have been extremely hard on Alan because he is such a private person. But I loved and appreciated his kind words. I know that he loves me. Very much. He tells me every day. Several times a day. Most of the time, just out of the blue. For no special reason at all. He is wonderfully sweet that way. I am privileged and honoured to serve the Lord alongside him...no matter what continent the Lord takes us to!
Have a wonderful day!

The TEST
Hello, friends and loved ones, thanks so much for those of you who prayed with me about taking this citizenship test! I will know the results in about 6-8 weeks. I think I did o.k., but I will just have to wait and see:( I did a LOT of praying! I mean, A L O T! It truly was a neat experience, but I would be really happy not ever having to do that again! There were 20 questions on the whole test. Of those questions, there were a set of 2 questions that HAD to be answered correctly, or the test would be failed. Then there was a set of 3 questions, one of which HAD to be answered correctly, or the test would be failed. We were told that we would be notified in about 6-8 weeks, and if we passed, they would inform us about the date for taking the oath. So I am praying that: 1) I actually DID pass 2) that the date for taking the oath would fall during the one week in June when we would be in town. It would be nice for the whole family to be there. If it were to fall anytime before or after this week, I would have to fly back from wherever we were. So, it is out of my control and definitely in the Lord's, so I will let HIM to whatever HE wishes. And not worry. Not one bit.
Please pray for Faith Baptist Church here in Hamilton, as well as New Testament Baptist Church, as both churches are holding their missions conference this weekend. We will be at Faith Baptist this weekend. Please pray for Alan, he is the special speaker for this one, and he has a sore throat.
Have a wonderful day!
